Hello folks, it's that time again. Hope you are
all well and doing just
fine!
As some of you probably know, we have not one, but THREE albums
being
re-released on July 31 by Sanctuary Records. The albums are
'SUICIDE',
SATURDAY MORNING PICTURES' and 'MUDANZAS'.
Sanctuary now have all our old back catalogue and intend to
re-release
everything in the future. Our first release with Sanctuary was
the
compilation cd 'TIME MACHINE - ANTHOLOGY' and then last year
the re- release of our very first album simply titled 'STRAY'.
I asked Roger Dopson at Sanctuary why they had decided to release
three albums at once and he said that the albums had sold well
and there was a lot of interest in the band again, which is
great to hear. Once again they have unearthed some previously
unreleased tracks. There is an extra track at the end of the
Suicide cd simply called 'Encore'. This was just a section of
a jam in the
studio and it reminded me of something we used to go into in
the very early
days in our encore. It was a mish-mash of riffs and whatever
tunes came into
our minds and fingers at the time all based loosely around the
Creedence
Clearwater track 'Keep on chooglin'. I'd forgotten all about
that one!
There are four extra
tracks on the Saturday Morning Pictures cd. There is
the edited single version of 'Our Song'. A 'B' side called
'Mama's Coming
Home' (Oh yeh you guitarists - I was playing drop D back in
the 60's!). The
original take of 'Going Back To Georgia' which we did not
want released at
that time. This was just a jam. Steve Gadd was not singing
the correct
lyrics - that's why I recorded it how I wanted it a few years
afterwards on
the '10' album. Then there is 'Get Out Right Away' (I like
the slide on this
one) and a version of 'Sister Mary' from a BBC session from
maybe about
1971 ( I think it was probably from a John Peel session).
Finally 'Mudanzas' which has an extra track called
'Brand New Day' which as I recall was the 'B' side of 'Hallelujah'.
This was the first time we'd
recorded a song with no guitars on it - I play piano and Hammond
Organ on
this one. I have to tell you, I think they really stand the
test of time -
I am very proud of these recordings - I hope you like them
too.
So anyway, what's happening with the band, I
hear you ask. Well the past 6
months or so have had their fair share of ups and downs. As
I think I told
you before, Paul Newcomb of Trigger Happy Music who had been
working with me for years, was made an offer he couldn't refuse
and headed off into the big wide world. Unfortunately it left
us with no representation which is
very important in this business, so it has put things on the
backfoot for a
while. However I have been in talks with a new company recently
so hopefully that will see some changes in the near future,
but I'll keep you informed of any new events !
We played the 'Togfest' recently in Milton Keynes which was
a lot of fun. It
was just a shame we couldn't play for longer. What a surprise
we had! Terry
Farrelly flew over from Australia to take some photos and
write an article
for Rolling Stone magazine. He used to live in the UK back
in the 70s and
was telling me about the old days when he used to come and
see us play.
Thank you so much Terry. And many thanks and full marks to
Ian and Linda Rowe for organising the event. They work very
hard to get it right. Also check out Ian's band 'Togmor'.
I had the pleasure of getting up on stage and playing some
guitar with them.
Also, I have been playing some solo shows and
thankyou for coming along and saying 'hello' - you know who
you are!
Meanwhile Dean Rees recorded his first solo album
called 'Sweet Felicity
Arkwright' on which I had the pleasure of playing not only
guitar but bass
as well. I have always enjoyed the bass, but I mainly did
it because Stu was
unwell at the time of the recording. Karl also did his stuff
on the drum
kit. We played a launch party gig for it, which gave me the
chance to
exchange some guitar chops with Mr Bernie Marsden. I've known
him for many years but we never get around to playing together. We
were also joined on stage by Mollie Marriott (yes, Steve's
daughter), Lee Divine, Tony Rolfe,
Terry Marshall, James Coello and Stefan John. I still am amazed
how we all
fitted onto that stage! More details of the gig are on Dean's
website.
Karl Randall has been supplying the drums for
singer songwriter Marc Joseph recently. He even played a gig
at Knebworth with The Who. Marc is a good singer songwriter
and a nice bloke, so watch out for him.
Stu Uren has been playing bass for a new band
called 'Last Stop China Town'. He has the bass tuned down
real low with these guy ... he will really
rattle your clapper at 50 paces if you're not careful !!!!!
Finally, don't forget if you take any photographs
at gigs, we'd like to see
them so you can contact us at either the Del Bromham or Stray
website. If
they are on a file send them to web@delbromham.co.uk
and we may upload them to the site and give you a credit!
Best wishes to you all - be safe.
Luv Del
